The Spectrum of Human Actions According to the Quran
First Foundation: The Quran Teaches That Deeds Are Not Equal in Value
Allah states that human beings are tested to see who is best in deeds, not merely who has the most deeds.
... ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا
“He who created death and life to test you, which of you is better in deeds...”
Excerpt from Surah al-Mulk 67:2
This verse is very important because Allah does not say:
“Who has the most deeds.”
Allah says:
أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا
Meaning, deeds that are better in terms of quality, intention, truthfulness, impact, sincerity and obedience to the guidance of Allah.
Therefore, human beings cannot look at actions only through the measure of whether they exist or do not exist. There is a person who gives charity. There is a person who gives charity sincerely. There is a person who gives charity while hurting the recipient. There is a person who gives charity in secret. There is a person who gives charity consistently until it becomes part of his life.
All of these are not the same.
